Mr. Matsuis Music Class

Project 1

For our first DAW project, we’re going to create a loop. It means that our music won’t really have a beginning, a middle, or an end, instead repeating continuously. It’s an opportunity to incorporate everything we’ve learned in the last few weeks. Click the above link to access the first Project.

First, let's adjust the loop zone; the purple bar at the top of the DAW. Everything inside the loop zone will repeat itself over and over. For now, make sure your loop zone is lit purple and turned on, and it’s length set to four measures. Tap to turn the loop zone on or off, and touch and drag the sides to adjust its length.

Project Requirements

Our project will have three tracks:
Drums:
  1. Your drum groove will use the kick drum, snare drum, and the hi hats.
2. The snare drum will play the backbeat on beats 2 & 4.
3. Change the drum sound from the default “Machines/Vanilla” to something else of your choice.

Bass:
The bass will play the low notes in your music. Find a bass loop from the loop library, and add into the music.

SFX:
The SFX will also be a loop from the loop library. For this project, make sure the SFX loops are not playing instrument sounds, instead playing some kind of noise.

Finishing Touches

Once you finish your project, save, then add your name, class number, and a title for your project.

The goal of this project is to get ourselves comfortable with the tools that we've been learning. Use your ears, your imagination, and have fun!
